- SpaceJet control surfaces & belly fairing [SpaceJet 控制面及機腹整流罩]
These aerostructure components consist of composite control surfaces and belly fairings manufactured by the Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (漢翔航空工業股份有限公司). Based in Taiwan, AIDC produced these sub-assemblies as a key tier-one partner for a modern regional jet initiative. The components represent a shift toward high-strength, lightweight carbon-fibre reinforced polymers designed to reduce fuel consumption and improve aerodynamic efficiency in the short-to-medium haul market. The primary buyer for these specific assemblies was Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation for the SpaceJet programme, formerly known as the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ). These parts were integrated into flight-test vehicles and pre-production airframes intended for major commercial operators, including All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines. However, following the formal cancellation of the SpaceJet programme by the parent group, the commercial utility of these specific part numbers is now limited to historical spares or research inventory rather than active production lines. From a procurement perspective, the primary risk involves the obsolescence of the airframe for which these parts were designed. While AIDC remains a high-calibre manufacturer with significant certified capacity, these specific assets are tied to a defunct programme. The Aerospace Garage desk would verify the current status of the production tooling and whether AIDC has repurposed the manufacturing cells for other regional or narrow-body aircraft programmes to ensure ongoing quality management and supply chain viability.
