Description

Sixth satellite of the China–Brazil Earth Resources Satellite programme, a long-running civil earth-observation partnership between the China Academy of Space Technology and Brazil's National Institute for Space Research. CBERS-6 is planned as a synthetic-aperture-radar mission, giving the pair all-weather, day-and-night imaging to complement the optical payloads of earlier CBERS satellites. Its operational focus is deforestation and land-use monitoring in the Amazon basin, agricultural survey, water resources and disaster response, with imagery distributed free of charge to users in both countries under the programme's open-data policy. The spacecraft continues a co-development model in which build work, funding and ground-segment duties are shared between the two agencies.
