Royal Air Maroc is shifting its passenger experience strategy by selecting Starlink’s low-earth orbit satellite constellation to provide inflight Wi-Fi. This move aims to eliminate the traditional limitations of aviation connectivity, such as high latency and low bandwidth, which have historically hindered streaming and real-time communication over African and long-haul routes. By committing to a 2027 rollout, the airline is positioning itself to compete more aggressively with Gulf and European carriers that are currently upgrading their digital offerings.
The technical transition to satellite-based internet represents a significant investment in fleet-wide hardware modifications. The integration will require the installation of specialized antennas and onboard infrastructure to support the high-speed network. For Royal Air Maroc, this initiative is not merely a passenger amenity but a strategic operational upgrade intended to modernize its brand image as it expands its network across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Atlantic. The success of the deployment will depend on the pace of regulatory approvals and the scheduling of aircraft downtime for equipment installation.
