Etihad Engineering has received official regulatory approval to launch a Part-147 certified training programme for aircraft maintenance engineers at its facility in Abu Dhabi.

The certification marks a strategic shift for Etihad Engineering, moving beyond heavy maintenance and component repair into the specialised field of technical education. By securing Part-147 status, the provider can now issue internationally recognised qualifications for maintenance engineers. This internal capability reduces reliance on external training providers and ensures a steady pipeline of skilled technicians to support the company’s expanding hangar capacity and complex wide-body modification projects.

This development strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as a self-sustaining aerospace hub. As global supply chains face a persistent shortage of qualified technical personnel, localising the certification process allows the MRO to tailor its curriculum to modern fleet types, including the latest generation of composite-heavy aircraft. The move is expected to attract regional talent and provide third-party training services to other operators in the Middle East, diversifying the company's revenue streams within the technical services sector.

What to watch: The commencement of the first intake of students for the certified engineer programme in Abu Dhabi.
